What is Islam?

لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله

“I bear witness that there is no God worthy of worship in truth except Allah and Muhammad(ﷺ) is his slave and messenger.”

Islam is the religion of Muslims. It means submitting yourself to Allah (God), by worshipping Him alone, obeying Him, and avoiding Shirk [idolatry, polytheism, and associating partners with Allah].

Is Islam The Religion of All The Prophets?

“Say (O Muhammad ): “We believe in Allah(God) and in what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaq (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob) and Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)] and what was given to Musa (Moses), ‘Isa (Jesus) and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between one another among them and to Him (Allah) we have submitted (in Islam).”

Quran [Al-Imran 3:84]

Yes, Allah sent Islam with Muhammad(ﷺ) to all mankind. Islamic monotheism is the religion of all the prophets. It is the religion of Adam, Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), ‘Isa (Jesus), Dawud (David), Sulaiman (Solomon), Ishaq (Isaac), Yaqub (Jacob), Yusuf (Joseph), and and all the other prophets peace be upon them and it is the religion of our prophet Muhammad(ﷺ).

What do Muslims believe regarding Jesus son of Mary?

The belief of Muslims regarding Jesus, son of Mary, may peace be upon him, is that he is a prophet sent from God (Allah) to mankind. In fact, he is one of the five Messengers foremost in their resolve.

Allah said, the meaning of which,

“And (remember) when We took from the Prophets their covenant, and from you (Muhammad, and from Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), and ‘Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary); We took from them a strong covenant.”

[Qur’an 33:7]

Furthermore, Muslims believe that Jesus, peace be upon him, is a human being from the progeny of Adam. And even though Muslims acknowledge that he only had a mother and not a father. This doesn’t mean that he has any characteristics of divinity or that he is the son of God. Dear reader, ponder upon the following verses from the Qur’an.

“Indeed, the likeness of ‘Jesus with Allah, is the likeness of Adam. He Created him from dust, then (He) Said to him: ‘Be’- and he was.”

[Qur’an 3:59]

“The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.”

[Qur’an 5:75]

“And (remember) when ‘Jesus, son of Maryam, said: ‘O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah unto you, confirming the Torah (which came) before me, and giving glad tiding of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad.’ But when he (Ahmed, i.e. Muhammad) came to them with clear proofs, they said: “This is plain magic”.

[Qur’an 61:6]

As far as Jesus, peace be upon him, being killed and “crucified,” then Allah, the One free from all imperfection and the Most High, categorically and decisively rejected this claim in the Qur’an.

“But they (i.e. the Jews) killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of Jesus was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts, they have no certain knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely, they killed him not. But Allah raised him up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he is in the heavens). And Allah is All-Powerful, All Wise. And there is none from the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), but must believe in him (i.e. Jesus, as a Messenger of Allah and a human being) before his (‘Jesus, or a Jew’s or a Christian’s) death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he (‘Jesus) will be a witness against them.”

[Qur’an 4:157-159]

So, the Jews brought upon themselves the sin of killing and crucifixion, since they claimed that they killed Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah, while in reality they didn’t kill him. Rather, they killed someone who was put there to resemble him, because Allah put the resemblance of ‘Jesus over a man from amongst them, and they killed and crucified that man.

As for Jesus, son of Maryam, Allah, the Most High, protected him and raised him up to the heavens. And he shall descend to earth at the end of time before the establishment of judgement day. And he will judge by the legislation of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Then he will die on earth and will be buried; then he will be resurrected just like the rest of mankind.

Allah said, the meaning of which:

Thereof (the earth) We Created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you out once again.

[Qur’an 20:55]

“Therein (the earth) you will live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (i.e. resurrected).

[Qur’an 7:25]
